Green Juice

A couple of years ago a few of my friends did this four-weeks Detox 4 Women program by Natalia Rose. I also did not escape the peer pressure of “being healthy”, “free of toxins”, blah, blah, blah… and exactly two years ago, right before I got pregnant with twin, I went through the whole four-week program by letter. It was hard and I hated every minute of it! Anything even remotely resembling dieting is difficult for me. Thankfully, the only time when a had to diet for real (counting calories and all) was this past summer, when I was trying to get rid of my postpartum weight. So, two years ago it was about cleansing, not dieting, nevertheless I hated it.
Anyway, here is what I was getting to. A few days ago I woke up with the strongest craving for the Green Juice that I drank on that detox program. Maybe this was the way of my body telling me I do not consume enough greens? (whatever that means…)
In any case, I have decided to start drinking this green “deliciousness” every morning for some time.

Here is the recipe. Its official name is Natalia Rose’s “Green Lemonade” (but if you ask me, there is nothing lemonade-y about it…)

  • 1 head romaine or celery (I prefer celery or mix of both)
  • 5 or 6 stalks kale
  • 1 whole organic lemon (you don’t have to peel it)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons fresh ginger
  • 1 granny smith apple
The original recipe calls for either a pack of stevia or a granny smith apple for sweetness. After trying it both ways, I prefer adding an apple.
You need a juice extractor to make it. I use my ancient commercial type juicer, which makes this terrorizing high-pitched sound and the twins are terrified of it… So, now I have to wake up a half and hour earlier to satisfy my body’s weird craving.
Thank you, body!
